About the Mediator

Janet Mitchell has mediated over 1,500 disputes, and has served as a mediator for decades. With degrees in psychology and in law (University of Michigan Law School), she values working with family members to help them hear each other, and to make agreements that last.

Janet’s focus is on working with adult siblings and their parents. Working together, the family can improve the quality of life for their parents. Parents want their children to feel heard and loved, rather than to constantly bicker with each other. Janet works with family members to set up meeting goals, ground rules, and helps them hear and understand each other’s interests.

Janet Mitchell has been a registered family mediator and civil mediator in Indiana since 1992. She spent years training others to be mediators, particularly elder mediators, and has worked with the courts, bar associations, and mediation groups to further the practice of elder mediation.
